Plastic sorting

Plastic sorting

Plastic sorting is the process of separating different types of plastic from each other. As plastics can consist of different materials, precise sorting is necessary to enable efficient recycling and return the raw materials to the cycle. During the entire sorting process, impurities and foreign materials are sorted out at several stations in order to ensure the required quality criteria of the sorted fractions (97% to 98%). Sorting can be fundamentally improved with the help of artificial intelligence. Tinplate and aluminum cans are also automatically separated by type using magnetic and non-ferrous separators. Once sorted, the 16 different fractions can be fed into separate recycling streams, making recycling more effective and economical. The pre-shredding and grinding of unmixed plastic waste takes place at the Erpersdorf site. This allows plastic waste to be converted into new products, which helps to conserve natural resources and reduce the environmental impact.
